What happens if you lose your boarding pass, damage the barcode, or can’t access your online boarding pass? That’s what we’ll tell you in this post.
Why do I need a boarding pass?
You will receive your boarding pass at check-in on site or online. On it you will find information about the flight (boarding time, gate, airline…) and about yourself.
You can either carry your boarding pass in paper form (at on-site check-in) or show it on your mobile phone (at online check-in). You will need your boarding pass to board the aircraft at the gate. Thus, it is virtually your ” ticket” for the aircraft. The barcode on the boarding pass will be scanned and you will be granted access upon presentation of your identification document (passport or identity card).
Lost boarding pass before security
If you can’t find your boarding pass before the security checkpoint or if you’ve damaged it, that’s no problem at all. You can easily go back to the check-in counter and have a new boarding pass printed.
Even if you can no longer access your online boarding pass, for example because the battery of your smartphone is empty, you can explain your situation to the staff at the check-in counter and receive a new boarding pass.
Of course, it is important that you can identify yourself with a passport or other means of identification.
Lost boarding pass after security check
Once you’re through security, you can’t just go back to the counters. The best thing to do is to talk to a member of staff at the gate about your problem. You can also “onboard” them manually without a boarding pass.
Even if there are problems with the legibility of the boarding pass (e.g. due to dirt or damage), the employees at the gate can manually board without a Boad card.
Again, the possibility of identification with a passport or with another official means of identification is necessary.
What do I need to know if I lose my boarding pass?
- You should have your identification document (passport or identity card) with you:
With the ID card, it is usually no problem to get a new boarding pass. If you lose the boarding pass along with your ID, reissuing it can be problematic. - You need to be at the gate early:
If you’ve been looking for your boarding pass for so long that you don’t enter the gate until the end of boarding, it may already be too late for manual boarding.
How much does a new boarding pass cost?
- If you need a new boarding pass, it is usually free of charge.
Don’t worry and enjoy your flight.
